1. Brainstorm the most important facts about Ukraine. Location: The largest country in Europe (not counting Russia), located in Eastern Europe. Borders: Borders Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Moldova, Belarus, Russia, and the Black Sea & Azov Sea. Population: Around 40+ million people. Capital: Kyiv, one of the oldest cities in Europe. Nature: The Carpathian Mountains, Crimean Mountains (partly occupied), steppe regions, Black Sea coast. Rivers: The Dnipro is the main river, stretching across the country. Agriculture: Known as the “breadbasket of Europe” – rich fertile soils (chernozem). History: The legacy of Kyivan Rus’, Cossacks, long struggle for independence. Culture: Traditional music, embroidery (vyshyvanka), pysanky (Easter eggs), dances like hopak. Cuisine: Famous for borsch, varenyky (dumplings), holubtsi (cabbage rolls), salo. Symbols: Blue and yellow flag (sky and wheat fields), tryzub (trident). Sports: Popular in football, boxing (Klitschko brothers, Usyk), gymnastics.
