Robert Burns is honoured as a national poet of Scotland because he is the Scotland’s favourite son. 2. When and where was he born? What was his childhood like? He was born in Ayre on January 25, 1759. He was the eldest of the seven children in a family. He had little regular schooling. His life was difficult because by the age of fifteen he was the main helper to his father on a farm. 3. Where did the poet get his education? Robert Burns got his education from his father. 4. What role did the boy’s father play in his life? The boy’s father taught his children reading, writing, arithmetic, geography and history and also wrote A Manual of Christian Belief for them. 5. What movement in literature does he belong to? He belonged to the Romantic Movement in literature. 6. Which of his poems and songs are well-known today? Today his poems and songs Auld Lang Syne, A Red, Red Rose, A Man’s A Man for A’ That, My Heart’s in the Highlands are well- known. У Роберта було дуже важке життя. До 15 років він був головним помічником батька на фермі. У цей час він почав писати вірші. Він отримував нагоду вчитися лише після закінчення збору врожаю. Роберт Берне вважається одним із засновників романтизму в літературі. Крім складання власних творів, він також збирав народні пісні по всій Шотландії. Він часто редагував або адаптував їх.
