Most of us are too caught up in our (1) modern lifestyles to realise what we are missing out on. We may have heard our grandparents talking about the (2) good old days, but it takes going to a village to get a taste of what life was all about back then.

My husband’s grandmother lives in northwest Spain, deep in the mountains of Galicia. She is still living in the same (3) traditional farmhouse where she was born. Although she has lived to see the 21st century, she is mostly unaware of changes that have taken place. It’s not surprising, however, because Vilar, the (4) rural village in which she lives, is in the middle of nowhere. Visitors need an advanced navigation system to find it. Visiting a place like this is like travelling back in time.

There are no hotels, restaurants or shops; so, to visit, you have to know a family there that is prepared to put you up. In 2018, Vilar had only 109 residents. Small wonder then that all the residents know each other and are somehow related. They are very warm and (5) friendly people who are always willing to help you. As for the food, all the ingredients are home-grown and the meat is organic and free range. The (6) delicious traditional dishes that are served are fresh and healthy.

So, if you need to get away from the (7) hectic city lifestyle, why not visit one of those forgotten villages where time stands still!
