The text tells a short history of the Internet and the World Wide Web. In 1969 and 1970 IBM worked on a project called Generalized Markup Language, or GML. Later it helped to create HTML, the language we use to make web pages. Another important idea was Project Xanadu. It started in 1960 and it was the first idea of hypertext, or linked text. This project is still active today.
