In Ukraine we have many public holidays, for example New Year’s Day, Christmas, Easter, Constitution Day, Independence Day, Defenders’ Day and the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in World War II. On these days people do not work and usually spend time with their families. My favourite public holiday is Independence Day because we celebrate our country and its freedom.

If I were a president, I would make Independence Day two days long so that people could have more time for celebrations. I would also change New Year’s Day: I would make it a calm family holiday without loud fireworks, because animals, small children and old people suffer from them. I would introduce a new holiday, Volunteer Day, to thank all people who help our army and other people in need. I think these changes would make our public holidays more meaningful for everyone.
