Pupil A: In my opinion the most important reason to study History is to understand who we are and what we have inherited from our ancestors. So I put this argument first. The second place in my list is the argument about how people, communities and the world have changed over time. Then I put the argument about preparing young people for international experience and civic life. After that I wrote the argument about cultures and traditions, and the last one is the argument about kings, princesses and warriors.

Pupil B: For me the strongest argument is to explore how people, communities and the world have changed over time, so I put it first. The second in my list is understanding who we are and where our ancestors came from. Then I put the argument about international experience and civic life. After that I wrote the argument about the past cultures and traditions. The last one for me is also the argument about kings, princesses and warriors.

Together: Both of us think that understanding ourselves and the changes in the world are the most important reasons to study History. We also agree that the argument about kings, princesses and warriors is the weakest one. Our classifications are different because Pupil A thinks self‑understanding is the first reason, while Pupil B thinks that learning about changes in the world is more important. However, our ideas about the less important arguments are almost the same.
