They are in charge of teaching staff and make a decision about admissions criteria. As a rule, they are suggested to use if the school has more applicants than places. Schools of this type try to integrate children into the local community. Community schools offer their facilities and provide services, among them there are childcare and special learning classes for grown-ups. As it was said, entering the school is run by the local authorities. But, sometimes schools may have different admission criteria or funding rules. Those schools that are free of charge are sponsored by the government but aren't governed by the local authorities. They control everything in school rules. But at the same time, they can't introduce academic selection like grammar schools do. Children with specific educational needs can be admitted there. They may have physical disabilities or difficulties in studies.
