Відповіді до підручника: Стр.134 (8)

Завдання: поділити наведені твердження про користь географії на ті, з якими ми погоджуємося, і ті, з якими не погоджуємося, та дати свої причини. Наведу зразок відповіді англійською мовою.

I agree with these statements:

1) Geography helps to understand the basic physical systems that affect everyday life (earth-sun relationships, water cycles, wind and ocean currents, etc.). I agree because these systems influence our weather, climate and water supply. If we know about them, we can live more safely and comfortably.

2) Geography helps to understand the geography of past times and how it has played a role in the evolution of people, places and environments. I agree because geography helps us understand history better: why people built cities near rivers, moved to other lands or fought for territories.

3) Geography helps to appreciate Earth as the homeland of humankind and gives insight into how the planet’s resources should be used. I agree because if students know more about the Earth, they will protect nature and use water, soil and minerals more carefully.

4) Geography helps to understand global interdependence. I agree because today all countries are connected by trade, transport and the Internet, and events in one place can affect people in other parts of the world.

5) Geography helps to get the most out of travel experiences. I agree because if we know the geography of a country, we can choose interesting places to visit, read maps and understand the local culture better.

I disagree (or do not completely agree) with this statement:

Human culture is fundamentally place-based. The land determines or influences the cuisine, clothing, architecture, even social relationships.

I do not completely agree because the land is important, but human culture also depends on history, traditions, religion and people’s own choices. People can live in the same place and still have different cultures, so culture is not determined only by the land.
