Big Ben is the best-known landmark of London. It is the huge clock tower of the Houses of Parliament on the River Thames. Strictly speaking, Big Ben is the name of the great bell inside the tower, which was named after Sir Benjamin Hall. The clock has four faces and is an excellent timekeeper. When Parliament is in session, a special light above the clock is on. Big Ben looks most spectacular at night when the clock faces are brightly lit. The deep sound of the bell can be heard all over the centre of London. Today Big Ben is a famous symbol of London and of the whole country.
