Tristan da Cunha is considered to be the most remote island in the world that people live on. The tiny island is located in the South Atlantic Ocean, 2,400 kilometres away from (1) the nearest continental land, South Africa. (2) In fact, it is so far away from South Africa that it takes six days to reach it by boat.

In January 2017, the island, (3) which is just 11 kilometres long, had a total permanent population of 262 people.
