2. Complete the story in the past simple.

Last winter we (1) didn't have very cold weather, but it (2) rained nearly every day for a month. After three weeks, the river (3) rose and the water (4) started coming into people's gardens. As the water (5) continued to rise, the school (6) offered some families with young children accommodation. They (7) slept on the floor of the hall, and the children (8) thought it was a great adventure. Luckily, most of the houses (9) didn't flood and people (10) were able to go home the next day.
