The dinner table sometimes has a few wisps of hay on the embroidered table cloth as a reminder of the manger in Bethlehem.
When the children see the first Star in the eastern evening sky, the Sviata Vechera may begin. In farming communities the head of the household now brings in a sheaf of wheat called the didukh which represents the importance of the ancient and rich wheat crops of Ukraine, the staff of life through the centuries. Didukh means literally ‘grandfather spirit’ so it symbolizes the family’s ancestors. In city homes a few stalks of golden wheat in a vase are often used to decorate the table.
Kutia (sweet grain pudding) is traditionally served at the Ukrainian Christmas dinner table. It is often the first dish in the traditional twelve-dish Christmas Eve supper (also known as Svyaty Vechir) and is rarely served at other times of the year.
At the end of the Sviata Vechera the family often sings Ukrainian Christmas carols. In many communities the old Ukrainian tradition of caroling is carried on by groups of young people and members of organizations and churches calling at homes and collecting donations. The Ukrainian song ‘Shchedryk’ became a base for the world famous Christmas carol, ‘Carol of the Bells’. When the children see the first Star in the eastern evening sky, which symbolizes the trek of the Three Wise Men, the Sviata Vechera may begin. In farming communities the head of the household now brings in a sheaf of wheat called the didukh which represents the importance of the ancient and rich wheat Crops of Ukraine, the staff of life through the centuries.

In the spring, seeds take root and vegetation begins to grow. The weather is warmer, and often wetter. Animals wake or return from warmer climates, often with newborns. Melting snow from the previous season, along with increased rainfall, can cause flooding along waterways.
In the summer, temperatures may increase to their hottest of the year. If they spike too high, heat waves or droughts may cause trouble for people, animals, and plants. Rainfall may increase in some areas. Others may receive less water, and forest fires may become more frequent.
In the autumn, or fall, temperatures cool again. Plants may begin to grow dormant. Animals might prepare themselves for the upcoming cold wéàther, storing food or travelling to warmer regions. Various cultures have celebrated bountiful harvests with annual festivals.
Winter often brings a chill. Some areas may experience snow or ice, while others see only cold rain. Animals find ways to warm themselves, and may have changed their appearance to adapt.
I like to walk in the park near my home. It is an old park. It is very interesting place to visit. You can see an old palace and old trees there.

My favourite season is summer. I like the other seasons as well, but summer is the best for me.
First of all, I like summer because the weather is hot. The sky is always blue and it hardly ever rains, and if it does, it is a warm and pleasant rain. I usually enjoy walking in the rain because it relaxes me. I like spending the long summer days out and sometimes even the short and warm nights. I like this season very much because it is the season of the perfumed flowers and the taste of healthy fruits from grandma’s garden.
Furthermore, I love holidays, especially the long summer holiday. I like spending my holiday with my family and friends, as well as travelling and visiting new places. From June till the end of August I like sleeping a lot in the morning, enjoying parties and sometimes pajamas parties, reading a lot and staying with my friends playing basketball or listening to music. In the summer holidays I also go to my grandparents. I like helping my grandparents with the animals and other interesting things. These are* some of the reasons why I love summer and I consider it the best season of all. It offers me time for fun and meeting new people. This season gives me the feeling of joy that no other season does.

It is not so busy and noisy as central streets. You cannot see so much traffic here. Though there are enough trolleybuses and buses to get to the Underground station if you wish to go to the centre of the city or to the Central Park.

In our street you can find any shop you need. There are greengroceries, baker’s shops and even flower-shops in the street. Not far from my house there is a nice department store.
