3. Write a discursive essay «The Earth is Our Home».

• What are five specific things individuals can do to protect the environment?

The Earth is the only planet in the solar system we can live in and we have everything we need.

We must appreciate, love and take care of our planet, but instead we destroy it, devastate it’s recourses and pollute our nature. And if we don’t stop we’ll have nothing to leave for our future generations. And every little thing we can do to protect the environment makes a difference! And becoming an environmental warrior doesn’t require a superhero like effort. Something as using ceramic instead of plastic or sorting out the garbage can make a big difference.

There are plenty of things you can do every day to help reduce greenhouse gases and to make a less harmful impact on the environment Reduce, reuse and recycle. Cut down in what you throw away. Compost, sort out your garbage, it’s easy and even interesting. Buy products that are made of recycled materials. It all makes a difference.

Walking and biking are obvious ways to reduce greenhouse gases. Leave your car at home 2 days per week can reduce gas emissions by 700 kg per year.

Conserve water. How? It’s easy, just turn off the water while you’re brushing your teeth. In such a way you’ll save not only water, but your money.

And of course the governments of all countries in cooperation with the scientists should find a way how to use natural energy in the environment: wind energy, solar energy, wave energy and geothermal energy. This can save our planet and make a huge difference.

There are several programs in our city that promote recycling and protecting of the environment. These programs form parts of the overall environmental management of the City. They include garbage recycling, water resources purification and solar energy implementation. And I think, it’s great! If every city in the world start such kind of programs, we’ll not have to look for the planet – B, because there is no such a planet and we have to save our unique and beautiful planet Earth.
